Another Birthday Song

sung like it’s in the public domain

I wrote this song on the drive back and forth to the grocery from my home in Washington Heights, Milwaukee, I think in 2013, on the presumption that the world needed another birthday song, one that would be dedicated from its birth to the public domain. “Another Birthday Song” is that another birthday song.

Sing it loud, even within earshot of copyright lawyers.

For reference, here’s a scratch track I recorded for myself early in its life.

But wait – there’s more! The idea of the song was to have something ready to go anytime someone in the audience was having a birthday, and here’s as example of that: from a Viper & His Famous Orchestra at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Dana-Thomas house in Springfield, Illinois, that had been set up by birthday person Rachel Liebowitz in 2014.

NOTES FROM THIS EVENT:

The “Made for Music” concert series takes advantage of the Dana-Thomas House’s brilliant architecture. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the house with music in mind, creating spaces with performance balconies and architectural elements that support live musical presentations.

The Dana-Thomas House was built between 1902 and 1904. It is perhaps the best-preserved of Wright’s “Prairie Style” homes, with more than 400 pieces of specially made art glass and original furnishings.

The house, located at 301 E. Lawrence Street (Fourth and Lawrence) in Springfield, is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. For more information, please visit http://tinyurl.com/DanaThomasHouse.
